THE COMING FAMINE FOR THE WORD OF GOD

"Those who do not now appreciate, study, and dearly prize the Word of God spoken by His servants will have cause to mourn bitterly hereafter. I saw that the Lord in judgment will at the close of time walk through the earth; the fearful plagues will begin to fall. Then those who have despised God's Word, those who have lightly esteemed it, shall 'wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the Word of the Lord and shall not find it' (Amos 8:12). A famine is in the land for hearing the Word.' Ms 1, 1857.


THE SCRIPTURES A SAFEGUARD

"To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Isaiah 8:20. The people of God are directed to the Scriptures as their safeguard against the influence of false teachers and the delusive power of spirits of darkness. Satan employs every possible device to prevent men from obtaining a knowledge of the Bible; for its plain utterances reveal his deceptions. At every revival of God's work the prince of evil is aroused to more intense activity; he is now putting forth his utmost efforts for a final struggle against Christ and His followers. The last great delusion is soon to open before us. Antichrist is to perform his marvelous works in our sight. So closely will the counterfeit resemble the true that it will be impossible to distinguish between them except by the Holy Scriptures. By their testimony every statement and every miracle must be tested.

Those who endeavor to obey all the commandments of God will be opposed and derided. They can stand only in God. In order to endure the trial before them, they must understand the will of God as revealed in His word; they can honor Him only as they have a right conception of His character, government, and purposes, and act in accordance with them. None but those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will stand through the last great conflict. To every soul will come the searching test: Shall I obey God rather than men? The decisive hour is even now at hand. Are our feet planted on the rock of God's immutable word? Are we prepared to stand firm in defense of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus?


THE ONLY THING WE CAN RELY ON

AN INFALLIBLE GUIDE

The Bible is "an infallible guide under all circumstances, even to the end of the journey of life. Take it as the man of your counsel, the rule of your daily life." 5T 264


AN AUDIENCE WITH THE INFINITE ONE

"The word of the living God is not merely written, but spoken. The Bible is God's voice speaking to us, just as surely as though we could hear it with our ears. If we realized this, with what awe would we open God's word, and with what earnestness would we search its precepts! The reading and contemplation of the Scriptures would be regarded as an audience with the Infinite One." 6T 393


HAVE THE SIMPLICITY OF A LITTLE CHILD

"If we would not have the Scriptures clouded to our understanding, so that the plainest truths shall not be comprehended, we must have the simplicity and faith of a little child, ready to learn, and beseeching the aid of the Holy Spirit. A sense of the power and wisdom of God, and of our inability to comprehend His greatness, should inspire us with humility, and we should open His word, as we would enter His presence, with holy awe. When we come to the Bible, reason must acknowledge an authority superior to itself, and heart and intellect must bow to the great I AM." 5T 703, 704


NO OTHER BOOK CAN SATISFY

MORE VALUABLE THAN MAN'S IDEAS

LIKE AN AUDIBLE VOICE

"Do we receive the Bible as 'the oracle of God'? It is as really a divine communication as though its words came to us in an audible voice. We do not know its preciousness because we do not obey its instructions." 5T 53

LIVING WATER QUENCHING YOUR BURNING THIRST

"Fill the whole heart with the words of God. They are the living water quenching your burning thirst. They are the living bread from heaven. Jesus declares, 'Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you.' And he explains Himself by saying, 'The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.' John 6:53,63." SC 88.


ANGELS ARE AROUND YOU

"As you take the Bible in your hands, remember that you are on holy ground. Angels are around you, and could your eyes be opened, you would behold them." FE 195.
