Yes unfortunately light does get dimmer in space over enough distance, but this may not be a very precise way of finding alien life, there is a type of neutron star called a pulsar which seems to flicker on and off which could bring lots of confusion for astronomers.

@bygota That is extremely difficult, the magnetic field here on earth is created by the iron in the inner and outer core, so we would literally have to drill a whole through mars itself.

It's strange how we haven't found other lifeforms in the universe, we can find alive micro-bears inside of boiling water and find penguins in the south pole, but we still haven't even found another microbe in the entire visible universe.

Well if you think about it, the universe should be shrinking since it's expanding faster than light, the expansions going to happen before the big bang happened.
