There are Hip Hop artist who speak for their people and then there are Hip Hop artist who speak for their generation. Jay-Z reminded us that Marcy was nothing nice; Biggie repeatedly asked us where Brooklyn at? And Tupac's poems helped show California a lot of love. Artist come a dime a dozen, but a spokesman for the masses who's been bestowed with witty lyrical wordplay as well as lyrical flow and charisma come along once every generation. In an age where the talented mind-pondering lyrics of the Mc have been cast aside for dance instructions from the swagger obsessed materialistic rapper of today. One would be hard pressed to find a more refreshing sound then that of Hip Hop phenom Rich Bake.Rather than conform to music industry's standard Rich Bake (Born Richard Baker) has trail blazed his own path to critical acclaim. Possessing head-spinning word play and a topical range more akin to the underground then mainstream, the 20-year-old lyricist has proven that talent can still make waves in the rap game.
Born just south of Chicago, Illinois, infamous south side neighborhood's Rich Bake grew up like the regular African American male survivor. What wasn't common, however, was the means by which he carried himself. Art and literature of all genres cluttered his bedroom floor, and a pair of running shoes replaced your typical drop-top Cadillac. Influenced by the hardcore rap of artist such as DMX and Eminem, Rich Bake grew leery of such negative messages, gravitating toward the dazzling lyricism of Mos Def and Jay-z.
In 2006, after graduating from high school Rich Bake signed with a major record label only to experience first hand the harsh realities of the music industry. With a new outlook on life, a polished up craft, and a keen business sense Rich Bake is no rookie. While others in hip-hop are wanting of fame and groupies Rich Bake is chasing after something we can't touch...History!
