Hawkeye (Clint Barton) is a fictional character, a hero appearing in comic books based in the Marvel Comics Universe. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck, the character made its first appearance in Tales of Suspense #57 (September 1964).

The Hawkeye is a vigilante who employs a variety or trick arrows along with his amazing accuracy to fight a variety of super villains along with his fellow avengers. At a young age, his parents died in a car accident and he and his brother, Barney, were sent to an orphanage, until he was a teenager and the two ran away. They ended up at the Carson Carnival of Travelling Wonders, where Clint was trained in aim and archery by fellow carnival workers Swordsman and Trickshot.
One day, he found Swordsman stealing money from the carnival, and Swordsman left him severely beaten. Years later, he saw Iron Man's heroics and decided to become a costumed hero himself, naming himself Hawkeye.

On his first outing, he mistakenly teamed up with the then villain, Black Widow, and ended up fighting Iron Man. However later his true nature as a hero was discovered and he was brought onto the Avengers by Iron Man and Captain America. He has since become one of the longest running and well known members of the Avengers. He has had several relationships with his hero colleagues including Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and Mockingbird. He has been featured in several different forms of media including being a main character on the 1994 Iron Man series, and both Avengers animated series. He also had a cameo in the 2011 Thor feature film and was member of the Avenegers in the 2012 Avengers movie.
