Introduction to Aramaic
1-10 of 11This short series intends to encourage people to learn Aramaic. It is presumed here that the viewer has some prior knowledge of Hebrew but hopes it remains accessible for those with no prior knowledge. The videos are intended to be as simple as possible and provide only the most important syntax. Following an introduction of the alphabet, declension of nouns and formation of the genitive the main focus of this series will look at nouns with pronominal suffixes and verb tenses. Behind the pronominal suffixes and verb tenses are patterns. The patterns are formed by prefixes, suffixes and vowel changes. An important key to learning Aramaic is in learning to recognise those patterns.

This is for the love of ancient languages and the ancient world. Having studied Aramaic at university I would like to share a little knowledge. The intention is to present a small portion of grammar with the hope to encourage others to learn. If you are encouraged to study Aramaic the best place to learn would be in the classroom with a tutor. The classroom setting allows students to practice pronunciation, ask questions and provide structured learning. For that reason the internet is not always an ideal solution. The internet may be a great resource for information but use great caution if you want to pay for lessons. It is reasonable that if you do decide to enrol on an online course to ask that your tutor is suitably qualified! One should also be careful if one sees modern sayings or slogans translated into Aramaic. Scholars educated in Aramaic refrain from doing such things. It may be best to avoid such people.
