Gowntacular.

Ted Crusty was born when he was still quite young, to the name of Teddington Crustacean. Realising this name was more hampering than a snappier name (except in the sub-marine world where he became quite popular), he changed it to its shorter form as it is now.

At some point in mid 1994, during a visit to a local tumble dryer production factory, he met a worker there by the name of Keith. Keith was the worker of the month and was doing a celebratory speech, but slipped off the podium and into the worlds most drying dryer, along with a large amount of freshly washed, slightly damp garments. Needless to say this combination proved devastating.

Keith re-emerged from the dryer, but as he had become entangled in assorted clothing, a name tag got stuck to his body in the carnage, and that name tag said Joe. Obviously the incident caused widespread amnesia to all present, so the name of Joe stuck. Tragically the event resulted in his body being turned into the very fabrics he fell into.
