About this user

Growing up, the piano was my babysitter. Mom and Dad provided lessons and encouragement, even modeled a love for music, but I believe the expectations were either for greatness or failure, not the inbetween-ness that defines most of what any of us do. Still, it became an integral part of me. Rather than develop unbelievable chops and pursue a promising career as a pianist, I wrote a few piano pieces trying to communicate what I felt. After a few ego bashings in composition class, I concentrated on the education side of music and became a music teacher.

Only time will tell if I've been successful in any of my musical endeavors, but some of my compositions still feel fresh to me. They are my youth, and as with all that has passed, I accept what I cannot change. All of the piano pieces here were written before age 20. I've since written for other instruments and ensembles, but I still have pianistic tendencies. Though the urge to compose has left me from time to time, I owe my entire life's journey to it, as it saw me through the turbulent beginnings. If you're a good pianist and want to create recordings of any of my works, drop me a line. If you're a critic and have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. If you've enjoyed listening, let me know - perhaps I'll post more.

About the more current stuff: For the past 24 years I have taught music - mostly band and strings - to students in grades K - 12 and Junior College. Lately, its been fifth and sixth grade students primarily, but I love working with any students of any age who are eager to learn the joy of music. I have written occasional pieces for my band and orchestra students and you'll find those and other examples of mine and my students work on this channel, along with favorite music or family video. While Im presently not connected to a full time teaching job, music continues to be an integral part of who I am, as I continue to work on compositions and performance projects.

Though some are famous and others not-so-famous, Id like to recognize and thank those many influences, inspirations, and teachers who have guided me through the years: Erik Satie, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Jean Sibelius, Tom Waits, Charles Valentin-Alkan, Keith Jarrett, Floyd Cramer, Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Rock and Roll, Robert Starer, Amanda Vick Lethco, Howard Cohen, James Leslie Reeves, Toby Tenhet, John Manchester, Douglas Wheeler, Eric Moseley, Waymon Bullock, William D. Clark, Judy and James Sclater, and many more.
