may i suggest to play some nature music on the background when you explain what to do during the yoga routine. sounds like water, wind, etc.; it would be more calming when trying to mimic you

thanks raaker for your thoughtful description to cckabab. Regular practice cultivates radiant mental and physical health. If you require an outside authority to affirmation there are countless scientific studies that demonstrate the benefits of yoga from the inflexible, to cancer survivors, to people suffering from depression, insomnia, anxiety and more. Seems like you should hop on the band wagon and give it a go!

Yoga is a discipline, and through the practice of it, one may achieve better harmony and balance of mind, body and spirit.

Definition: Yoga, noun: Hindu discipline aimed at training the consciousness for a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility...

Again, Yoga allows you to harvest a better balance of mind and body, that you may use in turn to promote your state of being, your relationship to your existence in the universe, and connection with ones ultimate creator.

So, no, the benefits of yoga do not stem from the physical practice, but rather from the state of being achieved by the practice of the discipline. If you are doing yoga to become more 'flexible' maybe you should spend some more time learning about the more general 'why' first.

Good luck to you, and blessings.

And every god damned yoga instructor is absolutely clueless as to why certain moves are being performed. There is no scientific rational behind the postures -- it's as if a certain movement has done something for someone and now everyone else is doing but no one knows why. It is not like a doctor who has studied every minute detail of physical body and can actually spend months building a case as to why certain treatment is being applied but not with yoga. They just keep telling you have to do this and that but no one elaborates on the "why" part.

Yoga is such a waste of time if you are not flexible, period. You can jump do all these moves easily if you can bend your torso 180 degrees. And the sad part is that yoga doesn't really make you flexible. That's the main reason why yoga hasn't really reached the male population because it does not answer the flexibility dilemma. How can we guys get flexible without trimming all our muscles? Yoga has become yet another fashion industry that neglects half the potential population and they don't seem to care.
