Kidogo Fremantle "TwoWay" Artists Talks
"TwoWay" is a collaborative art exhibition that will see Perth's finest Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal creative minds come together to produce a truly spectacular result.
This exhibition will be shown in the main gallery of Kidogo Arthouse, Bather's Beach, Fremantle and was the brainwave of Joanna Robertson, award winning artist and director of the Kidogo Arthouse and Kidogo Art Institute. The exhibition will run from the 1st Dec through to the 19th Jan 2012 and will be a must see event. Each work in this show has been created by two or more people from different artforms including a storyteller, musicians, playwrights, photographers, a documentary maker, songwriters, printmakers, two textile artists, a sculptor, a landscape designer, and a cluster of really amazing painters. "TwoWay" will be a feast for the creative senses and will portray the extraordinary connections between innovative indigenous and non-indigenous Perth identities
Rottnest Island
Just across from Perth is Rottnest Island, which is just as popular with tourists as locals. The clear waters, fishing spots and the cute quokkas seem to own the island.
Lucky Oceans Pedal Steel Guitar
Description: Lucky Oceans was born in Philadelphia in 1951 to a music-loving family who exposed him to jazz, classical, folk and experimental music. In 1970, he co-founded the Western Swing band he named 'Asleep at the Wheel' and began playing the pedal steel guitar. With Asleep at the Wheel, he recorded 7 albums for major record labels and toured the U.S.A. and Europe for an average of 250 dates a year, winning the Grammy Award for 'best country instrumental' in 1978.Lucky released his debut solo album, 'Lucky Steels the Wheel' in 1982 and in late 2005 released his second solo record -- 'Secret Steel' which the West Australian called 'a tour de force of versatility and virtuosity.' Currently Lucky leads his own group, the Zydecats, and has received the accolade of 'possibly the most influential and imitated steel guitarist of his generation.'
