Southwest Research Institute® is a nonprofit, contract research and development organization offering advanced knowledge in a broad range of scientific and engineering fields while providing practical technical solutions for our government and industry clients.

SwRI® began in 1947 as a small research organization on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, at a time when robots and space exploration were still largely science fiction. Today, we've grown to be an international center of science and engineering excellence with a research volume of more than half a billion dollars a year. More than 3,000 staff members work in such diverse areas as space science, automation, communication systems, modeling and simulation, electronic design, vehicle and engine systems, automotive fuels and lubricants, avionics, geosciences, materials, mechanical design, chemical analyses, and training systems.
