A former relief Woman of the Bedchamber to HM the Queen, LADY CRABTREE has been described as "redoubtable" and "more terrifying than Margaret Thatcher". In July 2008 the Dowager Lady Crabtree celebrated thirty years in showbusiness.
Influences:
Inspired by the characters DR EVADNE HINGE and DAME HILDA BRACKET(created by George Logan and Patrick Fyffe).
Rather than just performing as a drag act, Paul James took an actor's approach and tried to create a character that was as convincing as possible and, as with Hinge & Bracket, many audience members believe that Lady Crabtree is real!
Similar To:
Lady Crabtree has sometimes been described as England's answer to DAME EDNA EVERAGE (but so much more refined!) - although Paul had not actually seen Barry Humphries's act when he first started performing. Hinge & Bracket were really the main inspiration.
