About The Supreme Award
Dedicated to the golden era of the Retailers Association of Queensland (RAQ) Fashion Design Awards.
The awards were first held in a Brisbane nightclub in 1981. And as the awards evolved, it's new home became Brisbane City Hall. The Seven Network also began telecasting the awards live across Queensland, becoming an instant ratings winner.
The RAQ's were well known for its upbeat soundtracks, diversity in designs, cutting edge graphics and of course the annual stage transformation.
These days, the awards are now known as the 'NRA Australian Fashion Design Awards', with new broadcast partner Channel 9 and new home at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
No longer strictly catwalk, the awards overally feature the current AMP Shopping Centres "spokeswoman" and various Channel 9 personalities. It also heavily relies on a celebrity guest singer or performer to headline the awards.
So this is a glimpse of the original RAQ Awards when the emphasis was on just one thing - FASHION
