Many ppl believe that we Maltese ppl are mainly of Arabic Semetic orgin because Malta has much of the language & some of its culture from Arabs & because Semites took Malta in various times but the orgin of culture & language & the orgin of the ppl are 2 entirely different things. 1st of all, the real Orgin of the Maltese ppl, wether its latin European or Semetic or both is been fiercly debated & no one knows for sure. The 1st settlers on Malta we know of, came from Sicily & Sicily has been in constant contact with Malta ever since that time, we got more Sicilian blood in us than of anyone else. Besides Arabic in our language, we have French, Italian & Latin also, & our culture, tho it has some from the various differrent ppls living here throughout history, its very similar to that of Sicily, & we have much in common with Sicily, like food, clothes, traditions, folklore, buildings, streets, music etc. Malta was also a part of Sicily. Malta has a great history dating back to 5,200 BC & the very 1st settlers, as i said, came from Sicily before 5,200 BC, then the Phoenicians came around 1,000 BC, then Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks, Vandals, possibly Visgoths, Byzantines, then the Arabs, Normans, Italians, Spanish, Knights of st.John, French, British & fanially Independence & throughout history Malta was more in European hands than in Semetic. In fact, it is well known that native Maltese ppl always sided with Europeans in battles fought on Malta & around it between Europeans & Africans/Arabs/Turks except once. For ex: The Maltese fought alongside the much welcomed Romans driving the Carthaginians out of Malta during the 2nd Punic war, the Maltese also aided Belisarius against the Vandals (east Germanic tribe) from Africa on Malta & fought alongside the Byzantines against the Arab invasion of Malta, they fought alongside the Normans against the occupying arabs & they fought alongside the knights of st.John againt the Turks, Tripolitans & Algerians etc before, during & after the great siege of 1565 on several land & naval battles. Malta was converted to Christianity by st.Paul himself in 60 AD. It is said that the Arabs in Malta 870-1090 tollerarted the native Maltese to worship Christianity when its all BS, the 1st thing the Arabs did upon taking Malta was throwing the Maltese Bishop to prison & enslaved the Christian Maltese. They only offered Freedom from slavery & of religion when the Byzantines attempted to take back Malta & vastly outnumbered the 400 Muslims in 1048, so to gain freedom, worship God & stop suffering they helped them & NOT because they were tollerated. Then, when Count Roger I of Sicily came in 1090 all the Maltese volunteered at once to fight & get rid of the Arabs once & for all. So, the Maltese seem always to view Europeans as friendly kin & Africans, Arabs, Turks as non friendly outsiders ever since. From all these different ppls coming in Malta throughout history, which most of them were European, it CAN'T be concluded that we Maltese are mainly of Arabic orgin, so its stupid & ignorance when some ppl say we are mainly Arabs, especially when comparing how much years & centuries the Semites & Europeans lived here & when no one knows for sure what our orgin is.
