Sturk is a pioneer of the often unmentioned Oklahoma hip hop scene. The Chickasha native brings a one of a kind style and a flow unlike anything you have ever heard. Some might classify him as a newcomer, but that title doesn't really seem to fit. Sturk first picked up a pen and began to rhyme at the young age of 10. After years of developing his now trademark delivery, he dropped his first mixtape in 2005 and sold an impressive 3,000 copies. Some questionable business decisions with unreliable partners forced Sturk to step away from the game for a little bit, but that's all water under the bridge now. Older and more focused than ever now and brings a social conscience and maturity to a genre that's being destroyed by watered down radio singles.
"Hip hop/rap is all about self expression", says Sturk. "I want my music to touch people's lives and help them get through their day". I think his fans (he refers to his following as "Sturk Nation") would agree that he is doing just that. A young woman who had gotten a hold of his first mixtape contacted him to say thanks. She informed him that his lyrics had helped her overcome bulimia nervosa. Another testified that Sturk's music gave her the mental strength and self confidence to walk away from a life of partying and promiscuity and get back on track.
"That's just the power of hip hop", he states. "It does influence people, good and bad but hopefully mine influences just for the good. I can die tomorrow knowing I've done my job by helping someone".
Sturk draws his influence from any and everyone, such as Mariah Carey, 2pac, Jay-Z, Michael Jackson, Nas, Kanye West, and DMX. While the Oklahoma naitive stays humble and true to the art form, he has his eyes on some big dreams.
"I would like to achieve the world's attention. I got something to say and I need your ears. I call myself the leader of a new generation because I feel like I'm ushering in a new era of music with honesty, integrity, and passion."
