lbn Taymiyyah (d.728H) - rahimahullaah - said: "There is no criticism for the one who proclaims the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf, who attaches himself to it and refers to it. Rather, it is obligatory to accept that from him by unanimous agreement (Ittifaaq) because the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf is nothing but the Truth (Haqq)." [Majmoo al-Fataawaa 4:149]

Shaadh ibn Yahyaa said, "There is no path which is more straight and direct (in leading) to Paradise than the path of the one who travels upon the aathaar (narrations)." Reported by al-Laalikaa'ee in his Sharh Usoolil-I´tiqaad, no. 112

How excellent is the saying of the poet: "Every good is in the following of the Salaf, and every evil is in the innovations of the Khalaf"
(Kullu khairin fee ittiba´ man Salaf, wa kullu sharrin fee ibtida´ man Khallaf)

It is reported from Al-Hasan Al-Basrî that he said, If a man from amongst the Salaf were to be sent forth today, he would not recognize anything from Islam. He put his hand on his cheek and added, Except this prayer (salâh).
Then he said, But by Allâh, this does not apply to the person who lives in this unfamiliar time, never having seen the Righteous Predecessors, but who sees [instead] the innovator calling to his bidah,
and the follower of worldly wealth calling to his materialism, but Allâh protects him from all this and makes his heart love and aspire to those Righteous Predecessors, asking about their way, searching and trying to follow in their footsteps, and adhering to their path.
Such is a person who will be recompensed with an immense and great reward. So be you all like this, by Allâhs permission.
Ibn Waddâh, Al-Bida Vol. 1 p190.

Al-An´am:27-32...

If you could but see when they will be held over the (Hell) Fire! They will say: "Would that we were but sent back (to the world)! Then we would not deny the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.) of our Lord, and we would be of the believers!" (Al-An'am 6:27)
Nay, it has become manifest to them what they had been concealing before. But if they were returned (to the world), they would certainly revert to that which they were forbidden. And indeed they are liars. (Al-An'am 6:28)
And they said: "There is no (other life) but our (present) life of this world, and never shall we be resurrected (on the Day of Resurrection)." (Al-An'am 6:29)
If you could but see when they will be held (brought and made to stand) in front of their Lord! He will say: "Is not this (Resurrection and the taking of the accounts) the truth?" They will say: "Yes, by our Lord!" He will then say: "So taste you the torment because you used not to believe." (Al-An'am 6:30)
They indeed are losers who denied their Meeting with Allâh, until all of a sudden, the Hour (signs of death) is on them, and they say: "Alas for us that we gave no thought to it," while they will bear their burdens on their backs; and evil indeed are the burdens that they will bear! (Al-An'am 6:31)
And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. But far better is the house in the Hereafter for those who are Al Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). Will you not then understand? (Al-An'am 6:32)
