Strange how ears hear differently. I know the high regard in which Bonci is held and I hear great artistry but my ear hears endless bleating and yearns for Caruso. Each to his own.

What is worth noting is that he does infact sing it in key and rise to the high C. His father never put a chest high C on record and in his recording of the aria it is transposed down so - Caruso Snr's high note is only B. He did same with 'Di quella pira'.

@pavoman23 What is astonishing is that opera brings out the moronic, supercilious, 'I am more knowledgeable than you' prats who claim the so called 'higher ground' - such as you. Opera was conceived as an entertainment and it is not the duty of the producer (or anyone else ) to explain his conc...

dunjica77 you are absolutely right with your comment. Quasi experts abound. And if anyone tells you this is not how Tamburini sang it, ask them when they attended a performance with him in the cast..
One of mum and dad's favourite records. I grew up with it! Three great voices but a problem for me is Gigli's quivering and sobbing at the opening. It seems to mar much of his singing. and for that reason I still prefer Caruso. Great to hear it again though. Many thanks.
