I noticed the magnetic field has a "dip" in it going down the center of the track. It will be a little more work, but I think the stators would have a stronger interaction with the arch if you put 1 magnet in the center and two halves on each side instead of a "seam" in the middle.

The problem with using steel for a magnet motor is that when you run a magnet along steel in the same direction over and over, the steel will magnetize.
