About this user
We help seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.
A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Starlight offers a comprehensive menu of programs and services to provide assistance before, during and after medical treatment.
Our programs include:
-Fun Centers, portable bedside cutting-edge technology units including a custom-built Nintendo Wii video game console and a flat screen monitor. Kids can play games, watch movies and listen to music.
-PC Pals are laptop computers created specifically for hospitalized children to help reduce isolation, anxiety and boredom via access to education, entertainment and communication tools.
-Great Escape outings provide patients and their families with recreational opportunities away from the hospital, so they can relax, regroup and return home with a renewed sense of strength and hope.
-Hospital Happenings offer opportunities for patients and their families to enjoy visits from clowns, musicians and art therapists, who conduct activities like themed craft parties and scrapbooking.
-Starlight Sites are recreational areas within hospitals for pediatric patients that provide a place to relax, play and
interact with others during their hospital stay.
-Online communities and websites help seriously ill
children and teenagers connect with one another and share
strategies for coping with their medical conditions.
-Patient information, delivered via brochures, websites
and interactive games, help sick children understand
common hospital procedures and manage illnesses and
injuries such as cancer, sickle cell, cystic fibrosis,
asthma, Crohns and colitis, severe burns and kidney disease.
