About Francesca De Grandis

I want to share audio from my home recording studio and other home-based audio projects. I've no vid experience but don't want you to have to look at a blank screen, so am giving the vid my best (which is obviously mega-limited, and makes clear that, yes, I am a screw ball). Also, I wanted to show the lyrics for "I call My Tumor Fred," in case they are unintelligible. My vid skill set = typing them and printing them on cards to hold up in front of the camera! :-)

My myth: I chased faeries, which led me to become a musician working in clubs. Until faeries turned the chase 'round and kidnapped me, to make me a traditional spiritual healer. Was kidnapped by them - again! - and relocated from urban S.F. to rural PA, where I live with tree and sylphs, and try unsuccessfully to avoid deep thought. When I run from the Fey, they catch me.

Illness = housebound. So a home recording studio is a blessing. My set-up is lo-fi, e.g. I mix old school. I won't stall recording til I have the "right" equipment! We should serve with what inner and outer resources we already have, no matter how small, unkempt, or humbling. Give now with what u already know and already have instead of waiting til u know more or have more. (I hear someone says that in a book now too!) If you wait, the day may never come.

I never had big bucks, so my philosophy has been useful. E.g., taught self to play a funky guitar when I was 14, immediately started playing in clubs. (I was probably awful, but a novelty.) Art is like life: Its value is not in its mundane ingredients but in what we create with them.

I have Multiple Sclerosis (or something. Still trying for diagnosis). Holding a guitar is too hard now, so took up mandolin May 2008. Be gentle: I recorded "I Call My Tumor Fred" after playing mando less than 2 years.

I teach music a bit: guitar, mando, vocals. Do long-distance lessons by phone, which may seem impossible, but call 814-337-2490, I'll explain. I prefer query about lessons by phone instead of by email: Disabilities limit computer time.
