There were tenuto marks over those quarter notes in the beginning! The pianist totally ignored a lot of markings like those throughout his intepretation, but otherwise good.

It's amazing how fast some pianist take this etude; it sounds right until you hear how the original composer intented for the tempo to be taken at. Now it sounds even better.
