more
Forest City,CA is located just above Downieville, CA on the Pliocene Ridge. It is a historic mining town that hosted thousands of people during the Gold Rush and has miles of old pikes, flumes and ditches that have fallen into disrepair.
Things are changing in town thanks to new property owners who are fixing there mining shacks and putting a serious effort in to restoring the abandoned trail system. The trail efforts are being led by Zachi Anderson and his Forest Trails Alliance ninja's. The FTA has signed Memorandums Of Understanding with the National Forest Service and now operate a professional trail service capable of the highest quality trail work.
There is currently 30 miles of restore trail surrounding Forest City, with a proposed plan to develop the Mexican Mine trail to connect Forest City and Downieville via the North Yuba Trail.
This will instantly create one of the largest networks of multi use trails in Northern California.
Long term goals include establishing a Hut - to - Hut system for extreme recreational experiences.

more
On August 8th - 9th, 2009 Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-CAL) partnered with the San Francisco Rec & Park Department (SFRPD) to perform trail work and habitat restoration to the cities second largest park - McLaren Park - which is 317 acres. Over 140 volunteers helped restore over 2000 feet of trail and completed other needed restoration. Local groups like SF Urban Riders, One Brick and others recruited volunteers and brought their skills to the project.
This documentary is a gift to V-O-CAL from Spider Dance Media, who believes contemporary recreation and habitat restoration are compatible and necessary for the preservation of San Francisco's limited open space.
