Zack Space was born and raised Dover, Ohio. After graduating from Dover High School in 1979, Zack Space attended Kenyon College in Knox County. While earning a degree in political science, he was awarded All-American honors while playing for the Kenyon Lords. Following his graduation from Kenyon, Zack enrolled in the Ohio State University College of Law, earning his Juris Doctorate in 1986.
In 1986 Zack started a law practice with his father, Socrates. The firm, Space & Space Company, LPA, served the area for nearly 20 years. As a Member of Tuscarawas County and State of Ohio Bar Associations, Zack established a reputation as a caring attorney who stood up
for the rights of the underprivileged. In addition to his private practice of law, Zack has worked as a public defender, and served as Special Counsel to former Ohio Attorneys General Anthony Celebrezze and Lee Fisher. Socrates continues to practice in Dover, Ohio.
In addition to serving his community, Zack Space understands the pressures of running a business. He is a managing member of several closely held companies that have constructed and operated hotels in Tuscarawas County.
Zack is proud of his Greek heritage. He is the grandson of Greek immigrants. His grandfather earned his U.S. citizenship through his service in the first World War. Zack is a member of the Massillon, Ohio chapter of AHEPA and the Pan Icarian Brotherhood. Zack and his family are members of St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Massillon, Ohio.
Most important to Zack is his family. In 1988, Zack married his wife Mary. They have two children, Gina and Nicholas. Gina recently graduated from Dover High School, the same high school from which both Zack and Mary graduated, and is a freshman in college. Nick is a junior at Dover High School.
At age 6, Nicholas was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Like so many others that must deal with this dreadful disease, Zack's family has struggled with the fears, concern, and frustration associated with diabetes. It is this struggle that has played an important role in developing his strong advocacy for embryonic stem cell research.
For the past 16 years, his wife Mary has served as Judge of the New Philadelphia Municipal Court. The first woman Judge in Tuscarawas County history, Mary was re-elected in 2005 receiving nearly 64% of the vote.
Zack has a strong record of community service. He has served as a board member of the Tuscarawas County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and been active as a coach in local youth baseball, softball and football leagues. He and his son Nicholas are very proud of having been the top fundraisers in each of the local American Diabetes Association's annual "feet to beat diabetes" walkathons.
On November 7, 2006, Zack was elected as Congressman for Ohio's 18th District. This district encompasses 16 counties in Southeastern Ohio.
