I was just reading some more looking for possible solutions to my issue with my sony KDF-60 inch tv. I suffered the optical block issue that so many others have suffered. I tried years ago when it first happened to contact sony for solutions but only answer I had gotten was sorry not a warranty issue and to repair was like $1500. I tried to locate the part online as I do electrical repairs myself on tvs and laptops and such but the part when I looked alone was close to $700. I put the tv in storage and forgot about it for awehile and thinkin I missed the classaction lawsuit. I was curious if anything can be done about maybe just getting the replacement part from sony without charge and taking care of install myself as I do feel that 5 years of use was pretty crappy from a company like sony and then to ignore such a wide spread problem when customers contacted them. Do you have any help on this optical block situation??? Thanks.
I bought my Sony in 2005, Model # KDF-50WE655, I have been getting big blue blob on the lower right hand corner and blue dots on the middle of my screen that are increasing with time. I spoke with Sony tech support- could not correct the issue. I spoke with costumer service and they were not able to help me as my TV was out of warranty. I was given a number for authorize Sony TV repair company: which would charge me $100 to come evaluate the problem. They think it is an optical block issue. Research on net suggests that this is know issue with Sony TV particularly LCD models with defective optical block. I do believe this TV should last more than 6 years. I have an older Sony Trinitron tube TV that is working better than my LCD. My family and I have been life long Sony fans as this was 7th Sony TV and have many other Sony products from clocks, phones, stereo with no issues. I hope Sony stands behind their product. Please help.
Thank-you,
Jaimin.
We bought our "new" Sony Bravia TV about 2 years ago (Model KDL-52S4100, manufactured Nov 2008).
However, unexpectedly, it started to have a problem a few months ago : Whenever the TV is first turned on there are lines dividing the screen into 4 sections, the image is doubled or distorted and the colors are darkened and reddish, a ghostly image as the different sections overlap e.g. 4 eyes to each person, etc..... It takes about 30 minutes before the TV "warms up" and starts to function properly.
Lately the problem seems to be getting worse, and it takes an hour or more for it to correct itself, which is very very terrible and unbearable !
We paid about $2,000 for this TV and we've been a lifelong Sony supporter..... a SONY should NOT be having problems less than 2 years after purchase. That's totally unacceptable !
Pls. help.Thanks, Christine C.
