Asalaamu Aleykum!
Shia is not a sect, it`s not a madhab. it`s not a different religion outside the religion of Al-Islam. the word shia alone does not make any sense unless you associate some name with it. historically we know there were group of ppl named shiat-muawiya... for example at the battle of siffin some were called shiat-Ali ( aleyhi salam) and others were called shiat-Muawiya. the word shia alone does not have possitive or negative meaning. it`s just shia which in arabic means follower or a party.. the quran says Ibrahim ( aleyhi salaam) is a shia of nabi Nuh ( aleyhi salaam).
"And most surely Abraham was among the Shia of him (i.e., Noah)" (Quran 37:83)
And also in the story of Musa, the word shia is again mentioned in the quran
"And he (Moses) went into the city at a time when people (of the city) were not watching, so he found therein two men fighting, one being of his Shia and the other being his enemy, and the one who was of his Shia cried out to him for help against the one who was of his enemy" (Quran 28:15)
but the religion is called Al-Islam like Allah named it. if someone refers to him/herself as shia, it`s simply to indicate their beliefs and position in Islam, it is not due to any sectarianism, nor any innovation. It is because the quran has used the term for some of It`s best servants. we are in no way a shia ( i mean a true shia here). shia is only used for prophets of God, Awliyaa, and their best followers, we are just lovers of Ahlulbayt and their supporters. we believe in their wilaya ( divine leadership) we believe in their truthfulness without any doubt, we mourn their tragedies and are happy when they r happy, sad when they r sad... our ultimate goal is to be called a shia one day and every minute is worth living knowing Allah is the guide and Ahlulbayt are our role models towards Him.

The Prophet sallahu alaiyhi wa alihi wasallam said, "I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners."
Allahuma Sali Ala Muhammed Wa Ali Muhammed Wa Ajel Farajahum Ya Allah Ya Haq!
It is reported that the holy prophet( peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said:
" I am about to answer the call (of death). Verily, I have left two precious things (thaqalayn) among you, one of which is greater than the other: the Book of God and my etrah ( my family). So watch out how you treat them after me. For indeed, they will never separate until they return to me by the side of the Pond. Then he said, 'Verily, God is my master (wali) and I am the wali of every believer. Then he took Alí's hand and declared, to whomever I am his wali, this one is also his wali May God, befriend whoever befriends him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him.'" Abu ufayl says: "I said to Zayd, 'Did you hear it from the Prophet?' He replied, There was no one in the caravan who did not see it with his eyes and hear it with his ears".
