I don't trust Opteka personally, I had a nightmare using the X-grip. I gained much more success using a Cam Caddie to get smooth shots.

If you have smaller camera like a DSLR or your average home camera look into Cam Caddie. They are very affordable and effective helping you to get smooth looking videos.

Looks pretty smooth. camera stabilizer are such a must for good shots I've beens using the Cam Caddie Scorpion with great success and it was pretty inexpensive.

@killdog981 Opteka is kind of a beginners camera stabilizer anyway, it was always a bit shaky especially with lights attached.

This is a good idea in some situations but $38 will get you a Cam Caddie that is efficient and works well in any situation. I've taken some great shots using it in the past year.

The oldest trick, and sometimes very effective. I still prefer to use the Cam Caddie Scorpion. It was low-cost and works for a multitude of camera angles and movements.

So I've been using the Cam Caddie for a month now and my videos have been coming out better than I expected. They are easily as steady as the shots I've seen in videos demonstrating the Merlin steadicam that actually goes for twice as much as Camtrol.

Cam Caddie is easily the superior design to help achieve smooth shots. It's also built to last more than a year. Opteka's foam grip falls apart.

I wouldn't call this a great product, it's totally one of those chinese made knockoffs that wears out in a year and leaves you having to buy another one. I'm much happier using the Cam Caddie these days.

The foam grip falls apart not to mention it's shaky to begin with.

@JoeCnNd that's cool you can make stuff like that, I wouldn't trust myself to build something reliable that's why the Cam Caddie was a great find for me.

This design is kind of an awkward one to use. I traded mine in for a Cam Caddie SCorpion and I've achieved some amazingly smooth shots with it. Not bad for $38, not bad at all.

I had so much trouble trying to put one of these together. I've been using the Cam Caddie Scorpion for the past year or so with some great results. Sturdy and well made for $38 you can't find anything more efficient and affordable.

For those of you without the resources for one of these I highly recommend the Cam Caddie Scorpion. Easily worth it's price at $38it's the best solution for a wobbly camera for the independent videographer.

Both of these steadicams are waayyy too much, i've been using the Cam Caddie with great success. If you use it right the results are easily comparable and for $38 Cam Caddie is a godsend.

@malouni95 I had trouble putting together a DIY steadicam that I could trust my DSLR on. I've been using the Cam Caddie Scorpion with great success i suggest to anyone in search of an effective independent setup.

I checked videos for both Opteka and Cam Caddie as well as their Amazon presence. Though they both seem similar it does look as though Cam Caddie is the long-term purchase as some have said on their reviews of the 2, for a couple dollars more.

I watched some of the Cam Caddie youtubes, they look pretty nice following some of those skaters around LA. It's only a few bucks more than the X-grip on Amazon, thanks for the suggestion.

Hey nice moves, if you guys need to take night shots I highly recommend picking up a Cam Caddie it can handle mounting lights and a monitor with your camera easily. I had problems with the X-grip becoming wobbly and it had too small of a frame for my DSLR with batterypack.

If you guys are looking to take some night shots check out the Cam Caddie Scorpion it holds a camera/lights/mics with ease. It works great for what you guys are doing.

@CaseyTheDrummerBoy Yeah I think most people would agree with you but I've purchased too many crappy toys and pencils and sporting equipment that is just soooo cheaply made in China. Sometimes it's pretty much the same but I think this is another one that your better off keeping the difference in...

@sk8ordie4691 Pass on the X-grip, I eventually gave away mine once I received my Cam Caddie Scorpion for the same price off Amazon. Opteka is known for knockoffs and has had many problems with their products from what I understand.

If you get sick of the wobbly nature of the X-grip check out the Cam Caddie it has a much more professional design with room to advance your setup. Kid's pretty good, I'm sure you'll want to take more videos of him.
