About SloshedInShiga

Starting August I begin my life as an Assistant Language Teacher in Higashiomi City in the Shiga prefecture... in Japan. I am going over via the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) program and come from Michigan, USA.

I intend to have a video blog posted here, though please be patient with the quality as I am inexperienced at using a camcorder, editing video, and even being the subject of said video.

The target audience is mainly family and friends back in the United States, though anyone with an interest in Japan or teaching English in Japan is more than welcome to watch and comment.

Depending on the number of viewers I may expand the features of my vlog.

I am a few years out of college having earned a BS in Computer Networking and find myself not at all interested in a career involving the computer industry. During my time in college I had a part-time job as a tutor and found it very rewarding so I have followed that and now find myself headed to Japan to teach English.

What may happen once I finish my Japan experience I am unsure. I could go to another country to teach English, I could go to a university to get a degree in teaching or culinary arts, I could join the military, or I could stay in Japan and find something to do there.

Coming to Japan opens so many options in the future for me. Feel free to keep track of what I am up to and offer any criticism or encouragement that you wish.

I have so many hobbies that collecting hobbies could almost be one of my hobbies. My most noticeable hobbies are the SCA, and I have been wanting to learn how to play tennis. I have been working on how to cook and juggle but I suck at both thus far. Needless to say travel and experiencing new things are two things I believe in greatly. I am always learning and always open to new things.
