As a rapper with roots in both North African and American territory, Slick the Misfit is primed for great artistic success as an up-and-coming hip hop act worthy of international recognition. Now at twenty-one, it is evident what Slick is prepared to bring to the world of hip hop: A recognizably humorous yet malleable multi-lingual flow, and an unwavering air of artistic confidence and lyrical honesty. Whether it be his popular "2nd Floor Elevator Pushin' Mutha", or the "Worst Christmas Gifts Ever", Slick has managed to take these common frustrations and manifest them into music videos. Ambitious and determined, Slick's artistic goals are not limited to simply making a wave in the hip hop scene of New York City, but also gaining recognition and respect on national and, ultimately, worldwide levels. His "Switchin up the Languages" video, where he raps in English, French, and Spanish in one minute, is testament to his international appeal. Needless to say, Slick is more than ready to take on this role as an international hip hop star.
Slick has worked at a completely independent level to build his own buzz. After years of hitting up radio stations and clubs with his CD's and boom box, he is currently putting out one music video a week to a beat that his Youtube subscribers vote for. He is doing this to show his improvisational talent, gain more recognition, as well as challenge himself.
"Every music video I've done I wrote the treatment for, directed or co-directed, and edited my self. I can vision a video for every track I hear, I write treatments as I write the lyrics, its just trying to make it original and hit - that's the challenge. But I love making videos!"
Slick's undeniable style and fresh approach to rap later resulted in an invitation to perform a string of shows in Brazil. He proceeded to perform a series of successful shows in Brazil for crowds of up to 20,000 before decidedly returning to school to continue honing his production and engineering skills. His determination to continue growing as a person and an artist exemplifies the undying desire in Slick to continue on his creative road and let his music be the true focus in his life.
Upon reviewing his catalogue of hook-heavy material from his "Stakeout Pt.1" Mixtape, a curiously diverse Slick ultimately emerges. At points Slick's tracks are quite gritty and aggressive -- those tracks more likely to win over the young male listeners -- while at other times there is an underlying charm and humor to the flow he delivers. Consistently, Slick embodies a youthful attitude, taking on topics such as relationships, personal frustrations and boastful reflections with a fresh and honest approach. When he spits "Never took the S.A.T.'s, but still got into college.../ I slide through it cause I'm slick like that", one cannot help but be drawn to the playfully boastful side of this sly act with a pretty boy appeal. Ultimately, these collective lyrical influences reveal a youthful artist that is suave by nature and a bit mischievous, but also show Slick to be a completely confident force to be reckoned with.
