This song, beautifully presented by Sally Ann Howes, is actually pretty nicely crafted. The phrasing and melodic arc is well shaped and the harmonic structure has a nice oscillation between tonic/subdominant stasis and accelerating chord changes at the cadences. This is a great tune, as are a...

Fabulous performance all the way around. Completely amateurish video direction. Really rank. Also, the piece ends and there are always at least 15 mega-morons in any concert hall who are biding their time throughout the entire performance, waiting for the ending so they can yell "bravo!" exac...

A nice performance. It seems that the orchestra members are moving, swaying and "emoting" more than one normally sees in a typical performance, especially a concerto. Occasionally one of the section violinists or cellists looks over to their stand partner as if to say "did you see my moves thi...

The melodies in this movement are sublimely phrased and beautifully shaped. Truly a superb piece of craftsmanship on Strauss' part.

Notice at 3:56 one of the choir members strikes a tuning fork and quickly places it to his ear to try to catch his reference pitch. The piece is tough to sing, trying to keep your unique part on pitch in the tonal mass and not get too sloppy.

@philcookemusic My copy of the score is in offsite storage, but as I recall, the piece employs imitative counterpoint at the unison. There are a few key moments of homophony, such as when the basses sing "Domine" in a high register after the end of the first section (after the sopranos strug...
Fantastic performance!
