Somewhere along the tangled intersections and exits along the Information Super Highwaylies a city caught up in the odd, inane, and inherently shady aspects of everyday life. This whacked-up, spiraling-down place is SketchyTown.

SketchyTown, naturally, lives up to its name through a conscious incorporation and celebration of all that makes living in Los Angeles undeniably—and often enjoyably—sketchy. It commends the traffic, the music, the citizens, the bus system, the all-night taco stands, the old buildings trapped between skyscrapers or filled with cockroaches and people living below the poverty line. All come together in a fantastic blend of sketchtastic proportions to ultimately emerge as a portrait with qualities so uniquely Los Angelesian—self-consciousness, nostalgia, revelry for everything that makes life so uncomfortably entertaining.

All the above aforementioned things make Los Angeles the sketchiest place for a confused, befuddled, artistic, twenty-something aspiring writer to live—not because she is young, or female, or vaguely attractive, but because the pulsating rhythms and beats and pushes and pulls from the city's magnetic forces consume and surround her; it becomes hard to ignore, hard to forget.

So, we write about it.

SketchyTown features up-and-coming musicians, movies, and awesome things to check out, as well as people and places well-known and well-loved. Sometimes, it borders on the random, the ribald, the ridiculous—but hey, it would not be sketchy then, would it?
