Arma is programable so what you can do is create and then delete AI as the game runs. This is how you can give the illusion that there is 1000's of AI on the map. Richie generally had 1500 AI although the FPS was poor and he had the view distance all the way down (which was why the vid was done at night) :)

I take it you are thinking of getting Arma/OA? It's def worth it although if you want any advice on the hardware needed or how the engine works then let us know and I wil lPm you. I have tested it on many rigs and there's a few things that cntribute to the performance question. OA is better because it uses less logics giving better performance.

Don't base your opinion on Richie as he over clocks his CPU and knows what he is doing with regards to creating and deleting AI within game. It's the AI that takes up the CPU processing power because the AI in ARMA/OA is dynamic. Basically, the more AI you have the lower the FPS. This is not applicable if you are playing online and on a dedicated server tho as the server will take up most of the load.
