UPDATE OCT2007:

My original acct of almost two years, SimbiAni, was deleted ("suspended"), due to a third strike. Those were as follows: my Titanic WStars vid - in Feb'07 (cuz of Paramount Pictures), and the iD4 Attack vid in Sept (caught by Twentieth Century Fox), and lastly in Oct'07, my LiLM Brave New Girl vid (by Zomba Label Group, for the music). So I lost all 420+ subscribers, plus the combined total of about 2.8 million views for nearly 50 vids, my most popular being my AtB vid at 840,000 views with nearly 7,000x faved, as well as ALL THEiR COMMENTS... etc.

So just why am I back? And still posting / reposting vids that could very well get me deleted again? Cuz I believe that fans should be allowed to make vids for and of their favorite movies, shows, and music. And I won't give up that easily. While yes, copyright laws are indeed useful and there for good reasons, like preventing bootlegs and such, there also should be a certain area that allows for fannish vidding, as long as the vids remain nonprofit, harmless, and overall promotional for the fandoms involved. Also, sharing scenes from said favorite fandoms (such as a funny moment from an ep of a show) should be allowed as well. Both things not only enable fans to enjoy their fandoms moreso with each other, but can also often recruit new fans for all fandoms involved too.

The truth is CREDIT NEVER MATTERS and neither does non-profit intentions or whatever. Companies just don't like their stuff being used AT. ALL. and they are usually quite spiteful about it (with the one-time exception of Viacom, who once restored a fanvid of mine calling it "creative", so that was a good step!!) and so companies keep forcing video hosting sites to take down their material wherever it shows up. It will always happen, and usually in the most random ways too, as annoying as that is.

I don't blame YouTube.. But I do blame the ridiculous attitudes of all the greedy companies who complain about vids. They have the power to sue YT, and so YT has to comply or face the penalties, since most all fanvid material belongs to those companies and not us the fans, and as such, YT can't stand up for us (as we are, *just* mere fans, lol). See, as owners of the stuff, the companies annoyingly seem to have the right of saying "no touchy", EVEN THO we the fans are simply just *promoting* their stuff and getting them even more fans.. go figure!

Yes, it's frustrating as hell.. and I swear, that if I could afford it, I would totally take them to court over it LOL and fight for the right of fanvids, hehe... even tho that probly makes me sound really lame! I don't care ;P But as it currently stands, fanvidding for any reason is just out and out illegal no matter how we twist it... Of course, that is so NOT gonna stop me from still vidding and or reposting my vids to YouTube - over and over again - no matter how many times they try and delete me ;DD ("suspension", pfft)

FIGHT FOR CREATiVE FREEDOM! MAKE FANVIDS!

And FYI... I do NOT support any digital piracy (using free downloads to replace official stuff) ; everyone should buy official dvds / cds / mp3s / etc if they can afford them, to show support for their fave shows / movies / musical artists like true fans! I will always refer you to Amazon links if you ask me for any of my source material! I love promoting my fandoms ;P

UPDATE MAY2008:

So.. there has been *some* progress with certain companies allowing fanvids to stay up - specifically by Universal Music Group and SonyBMG that I kno of so far. I will keep a close watch on this progress and on any other further developments with any other companies, altho my own account has actually now been compromised with *two* strikes, all thanks to Twentieth Century Fox, first they poofed the official Anastasia trailer (in Feb'08), and then my At The Beginning fanvid a few weeks ago; ironically, it was JUST as I had gotten yet another fan to go buy the movie on dvd BECUZ of my vid.. and I do plan to let Fox kno all about that and see what they say.. but at the moment, I am just gathering thoughts and ideas together; as well as dealing with lots of offline stuff too. Hopefully - *unjinx* - I won't get one of those deadly third strikes in the meantime.. Keep in touch, and stay strong! ;D
