@waterboyark Interesting -- I've seen a number of attempts at using bottleneck cases in revolvers over the last 40+ years, and they've all suffered from cylinder lockup due to cases setting back as the shoulder expands. Does this .300 GNR have some special feature to prevent that?

One should note that data for a 150 gr JSP flat base is *NOT* interchangeable with 150 gr FMJ boat tail -- the bullets will protrude a different distance into the case, and have different bearing lengths in the bore; worse, some loading manuals give data for .308 bullets (in a .308 groove barrel)...

I'd suggest polishing up the barrel and giving it a good cold blue treatment. It won't stay on much if any longer than Duracoat, but it won't flake when it does start to wear.

Did I just see you chamber a new round after the shot, then sling the rifle and walk away with a live round in the chamber and safety off? Given the state of the safety on a Mosin Nagant, I'd suggest it's probably best to hike with the action open, or at least decock the rifle before slinging it...

Not that big a deal, the pipe works well and lets the mineral spirits get into the nooks and crannies on the outside (under the sight base, for instance), and I can save the spirits by pouring back into the can when I'm done.

For heaven's sake, take the bolt out before you remove the action from the stock. It'll simplify access to that rear screw, and remove any doubt (at a glance) whether the weapon is in a safe condition. There's no reason to have the bolt in for this operation.

Hollow points might not be the right choice for this task; I'd guess that lack of penetration was more of a problem than lack of power (or even shot placement). @Iraqveteran8888 That's the difference between the reinforced wheels (as you demonstrated) and the plain ones (which jiggawoo is probably using). The plain ones shatter frequently; the reinforced ones, though a bit thicker, are almost unbreakable.

I think it's safe to say that any Mosin Nagant, whether 91/30, M38, or M44, that shows a wartime manufacture date on the barrel saw action in WWII. The Soviets weren't producing those by the millions just to put them in storage...
