Since John Muir first decided that the best way to protect the Sierra Nevadas was to form a club to help people connect with nature, The Sierra Club has become synonymous with the highest level of zeal and integrity in protecting our environment.

Following in Muir's footsteps, in 1969 Sierra Club members across the province decided it was high time BC had its own chapter to help protect our threatened old growth forest. Our founding members included such luminaries as Alan Drengson, first Dean of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria, and Ric Careless, Order of BC and well known environmental advocate. Those original campaigns protected the Nitinat Triangle that joined the Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island.

Since then Sierra Club BC has played a leading role in environmental stewardship in BC. We are the oldest environmental organization in the province. Our years of experience and credibility place us in a unique position where we are respected by government, industry and environmental advocates alike. Crucially, with 6 local groups and 15,000 supporters across BC, we also know we have the support of people like you.
