    Quincy Jones "Killer Joe"

From the album "walking In Space"

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

If there is a better version. please let me know. I usually prefer saxophone tunes, but the brass penetrates the air so great in this and it's so tight that i don't think there is much better out there. This was the theme song on the great Charlotte FM jazz station (now defunct) for years; anyb...

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

This is about as good as it gets! Monk, Rouse, Riley, & Gales?. I love this version and am still working on a transcription of Rouse's tenor part.

Thelonious Monk - Sweet And Lovely

Beautiful Ballad by Thelonious Monk released on "Solo Monk".

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

The cover doesn't mean much to me, but Monk's piano and his music, as well as Charlie Rouse's saxophone on other recordings are the greatest music that I have had the privilege of listening to. May God bless his family, friends, and those who still enjoy these treasures.

    Chet Atkins "El Condor Pasa"

My understanding is that this melody is an old Indian tune...it's haunting and I believe Simon and Garfunkle had a hit with it.

    Chet's beautiful ec...

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

Does anyone in 2011 really have enough peace (even if they have enough talent) to have the spirit to play something half as beautiful as the many beautiful pieces that this man played? (once upon a time, when there was more optimism & hope in this country). Thanks!

    Close To You

Rod C. with his version of Close to You by the Carpenters!!!

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

Very Nice! I love this song. I'm a tenor man and usually prefer listening to tenor or bari, but you really push out the sound and make the alto sound like it belongs! Great tone in the mid range and down low where so many players fall short. I hope that I can find more of yours.

Charlie Rouse was so clean & articulate (structured or free-ride improv); small wonder Monk enlisted him for so long on many of his best recordings.

    Jackie Gleason Tenderly

1957 album Music to Make You Misty

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

Still captivating in the 21st century! Bobby Hackett's cornet had that far-away sound and is as good as I've ever heard. I'm a saxophonist and don't usually listen to a lot of brass; but his sound stops me and takes away all my troubles.

    Sibonsax Sibonsax commented:

The Bass does lay down a great foundation. Was that the great Bobby Hackett on cornet? It's a shame that I can't find such music on my FM radio any more.

Monk, Rouse, and all of the quartet played with Resolution, and were so tight. This one is a little more mellow than most that I listen to. I love all of theirs. Thanks

It's great to hear Mr. Rouse reflect on his days with Monk and to play so nicely when it was just a short time that he had left on this earth. I play tenor & he is my all time favorite. Thanks so much.
