About Me:

I love Martial Arts, I try to watch & learn from all styles. I was lucky to be introduced to Okinawan Shorin Ryu after studying couple of other styles before. Karate is my passion & I have trained for over two decades in Shorin Ryu. I also loved Chinese martial arts. Movies have had great impact since that is where most people were introduced to the arts in the west to start with.
Tai Chi has also become a passion of mine, it is a great way to learn how to relax, develop your Ki or Chi & enhance Karate.
All forms of Martial Arts are great and if you truly want to know how to be complete and know how to defend yourself properly, you must know and understand how grappling works or you will never be able to defend against it, also for ground fighters they must know how to defend against stand up fighters & how to get around them.

Martial arts will make you fit; it can only make you stronger. Your mind, body & spirit will rise to better heights. You will sweat, you will learn about yourself while on this journey. Martial Arts will become part of your life if you allow it. You discover that you can draw on the strength you have built within you for the rest of your life.

The right teacher is everything. Too many phony instructors with little or no knowledge in the west teaching as masters.

I am thankful to the Gracie clan that showed the weakness in the western martial arts and has shown its shame, they have made a great difference in the nonsense that has been going on for five decades in the west.

Black Belts: No you are not a master when you get your black belt, you have only been initiated in your style, you are now ready to learn, no different than your first year in college, you still have no college degree when you start, not until you finish & no end to martial arts training or learning, you will never stop learning, if you work at it.
Your belt is only for your own school and the standards they have set.
Be humble, you will always find someone better than you with more skills and knowledge.

Tournaments have there place, but do not focus too much on tournaments for too long, or take it too seriously, it can help you with your skills, timing and distance, but be aware it will also teach you a lot of habits that will not work in a fight or self defense, it is what it is and you can only learn so much from it.

MMA also has its place; it is guided by rules & regulations. People in the MMA do not take one anothers eyes out or break each other in half even though they have the skills to do so.
In the streets or self defense anything goes, rules and regulations do not exist.

My views like it or not are my opinion and knowledge I have gained throughout my training.

You know what they say about opinions, mildly put they are like armpits; everyone has one & thinks the others stinks.

awp97128, I find people like you to be nothing more than a mouth with an ego that can never prove what they preach. Please grow up & learn before rambling as you do.

look dude. i didnt insult you so dont bitch at me for saying it how it is. ive been taught that a kata is a fight. ipom and ichi go ichi e. i dont care who that dude is, if that dude is in a fight and telegraphs that bad his face will be a makiwara in an instant. with your demenor id place you at about 6th kyu. and fyi i am a san-dan in matsubiashi and ni dan in kobudo.i am 5th generation from Nagamini and trained in okinawa for 2 years when i was in the Marine Corps. so run along and go play with your re-break boards and maye one day you will learn ome-te (ask your sensie) and find a move transition from a zenkutsidachi to a different stance where telegraphing is warrented.
