Probably some inside joke. I see hints of a few of them throughout the vids. For example, in one rendition of "Teenager In Love", Chico keeps saying "ax" instead of "ask" and Santini looks like he's trying so hard to keep from cracking up. I'd love to hear the story of "Boozer"... :)

I can recall while studying things like stuttering (I had a friend with a severe stutter, and I was a total bookworm geek about things) that he and Mel Tillis were two performers who had to overcome it to perform. This was, of course, years ago and I may not be remembering right...

@KoivuTheHab Seconded. The sound may be similar to what would later be called "punk", but it isn't punk anymore than the 30s and 40s era Big Bands use of opening and closing mutes made it "doo-wop", although that was exactly the sound the 50's doo-wop groups were going for.

@cajanwitch60 Look for Freecorder4. It's a free program that lets you record audio off of your computer and save it in a number of formats including mp3. The good news is that it won't record system sounds, so when I got a beep while burning Chico to mp3, it didn't come out on the recording.
