About this user
I have very few beliefs. It I even think that "I think therefore I am" has too many assumptions in it to warrant complete acceptance.Any downsides to dying become irrelevant upon death.
Beware of those with power, for they seek to preserve it. Beware of those with dogma, for they seek to spread it.
Good and evil are just labels, just as any other words. I like to define them as follows:
Good - addition of something that society(or individuals) values
Evil - taking of something that society(or individuals) values
Because some people don't know what a logical fallacy is, I did the math on Pascal's Wager. this is what I got:
Chances you go to your god's heaven:
1/((1-x)*#of base religions*#of Religions* # of sects))
Chances you burn in some other religions hell:
(1/((1-x)*#of base*#of Religions* # of sects)))
Chances of nothing happening: 1/x
Notice how no matter what religion you are, you have a greater chance of burning in someone else's hell!
If religions continue to form over time ad infinitum, then the chance of you going to a heaven approves zero, while the chance of you going to some random hell approaches 50%, almost equal to the chance of nothing happening. While is worth noting that not all religions have a concept of a positive and negative afterlife, when would take time to be infinite, it doesn't affect the calculation.
BTW a base religion is the term I use for the original religion before it started branching off, like how for Christianity to be true Judaism must first be true.
Also if you ever found yourself telling other people what THEY believe, I created this law for you.
Maxi's Law(named for the user that inspired the law): If you say that someone believes something and they say that they don't, you probably have no idea what they believe.
You can point out what their holy book says but please don't be arrogant enough to assume the you know a person's beliefs better than the person in question.
Why your god doesn't exist:
Perfect means unimprovable. It comes from the Latin for "made through" or "finished", so this definition is appropriate.
Fulfilling a desire or need is an improvement, therefore a being with unfulfilled needs is improvable and therefore imperfect.
Voluntary means with desire, so a being without desire could not perform a voluntary action.
Creation is an action, therefore a perfect being could not voluntarily create anything.
The alternative to voluntary creation is involuntary creation.
Involuntary creation implies a compulsion to create. Any objections
A being with an unfulfilled compulsion is improvable by fulfilling the compulsion, therefore a being with an unfulfilled compulsion is improvable, therefore a perfect being cannot perform involuntary actions.
A perfect being cannot perform voluntary or involuntary actions and therefore cannot perform any actions and therefore cannot create.
As soon as I find a camera I'm gonna turn these into videos.
