Keera Spartan always wondered why her parents tried to kill her.....and why she was forced to kill them. Now, an old dragon told her about the cult of the dragons....and everything was solved...

Cult of the Dragons (Shapeshifting Dragons to be exact):
From birth, a dragon chick is raised by her parents like any mammalian creature (even though they are reptiles). The parents care for their children (usually two per batch) with as much (perhaps even more) love as humans do...until the day comes. Once a dragon reaches her teen years, she will no longer be cared for by her parents. By the thirteenth birthday, the dragon must go into combat with his or her parent of the corresponding sex; a male teen will fight his father, while the female will fight her mother. It's a battle to the death. The dragon must kill her parents in order to live. If she fails, she dies and the parents will try another batch to raise. This may seem like a cruel cult to live by, but believe it or not, the parents do this with the utmost love and purest intentions. This ritual ensures that the next generation is always stronger than the last. That is how the dragon race evolves and adapts so quickly, their evolution sped up by instincts of combat. This also ensures that the population remains stable; no gains nor losses. Since ever two dragons give birth to only two surviving offspring, their numbers never increase past a specific limit. This is from a belief they have that they should not interfere with nature's givings, and that they must leave room to other species. They have great intelligence, beyond that of even the most erudite humans. And while they have the potential to create a civilization even more advanced than man, they hesitate to do so, because they have learned from humans of the consequences of unrestrained development. Therefore, they remain a primitive race. They are mostly a peaceful and pacifist race, but when the balance of another species is threatened (let's say, by humans cutting down the rain forest), they will fight with merciless valor and savagery to protect what they believe in. However, even with their nature of combat, they will still try all means of achieving peace before going to war...even if it means sacrificing their own race...

Nature of Shapeshifting Dragons:
While all shapeshifters can morph into any living being they want, most will choose between only their two most familiar forms. Their primary form is always their dragon form. Their secondary is usually determined by their first kill as a teen. This kill is also what determines the breed that they are.

Human Breed: These are by far the most popular breed of shapeshifters (mostly because of the high human population and because humans are easy prey). They often develop a taste for human flesh, and become what humans call "man-eaters". After a major incident that releases massive rage from the dragon, she will become one with her human form, giving her the ability to morph between transformations with ease (normally, staying in secondary will drain the dragon's energy). Once this happens, the dragon hides among humans, unknown by t her peers. When the time comes, she takes her prey, eating them alive from the leg-up, to ensure the most painful death possible.

History:
One may interpret a dragon's taste for human flesh and her tendency to kill by torture as an evil cult, but the race nonetheless has a very justified reason for their behavior. In modern day, they resent every aspect of humans. And they have reason to. In the midevil times, they dragon race was nearly wiped out by humans. One might wonder how this is possible, considering how a dragon is superior to a human in every way (strength, speed, intelligence, comradeship, valor). But this makes total sense when one takes into consideration of their beliefs. Dragons are pacifists and want peace and balance more than anything. They believe that even a race as cruel, greedy, and egotistic as humans deserve a chance to live. In the midevil times, human knowledge of dragons became widespread. The humans saw dragons as an evil creature sent by the devil (though they have no reason to support that) and waged a war. And so began the war that wiped out over 99% of the dragon population. Throughout the war, the dragons tried in vain to prove that they want nothing but peace. They speak the human tongue, so they negotiated, but the humans were deaf to their words. They provided evidence of their loyalty by not attacking even when entire flocks were burned alive, but the humans were blind to their actions. They even tried to help the humans by healing their sick, for they have advanced knowledge of magic and herbs, but the human's saw the acts of charity as lies to trick them. So, throughout the war, despite the dragons' futile attempts to create peace, the humans have all but annihilated the dragon race. In the presen
