About this user
It is not very often that a person can refer to their self as a Legend. However, Wayne Seybold didn't have to give this title to himself. Others gave it to him. Two books now refer to Wayne Seybold as an Indiana Legend. Both "Indiana Legends" and "Legendary Hoosiers" do just that. Wayne and his sister Natalie (Kim) Seybold-Catron competed in the 1988 Calgary Olympics as Pairs Figure Skaters. Their 10th place finish gave them the title, Legend.
Wayne's story begins in the City of Marion, Indiana. Growing up in a trailer park on the South Side, the Seybold's never had a lot of money. Wayne's parents gave up a larger house in order to fund Wayne and Kim's training.
Although Wayne and Kim gained International fame because of their skating efforts, it was the fundraising efforts of the citizens of Marion to help pay for their training that made their story so unique. Marion residents contributed over $40,000 to help Wayne and Kim train. They have never forgotten Marion's generosity.
Realizing that his skating career would end someday, Wayne started working in the Entertainment business in Los Angeles, California. While in LA, Wayne worked as a Line Producer and Co-Producer for numerous skating productions that toured around the world. These shows were also made for television and home video.
These ventures gave way into the world of promoting, management, and marketing. As a specialist in these areas, Wayne developed a reputation of being able to get things done anywhere in the world. Because of his efforts, On Ice Productions became one of the leading show producers in the world.
Ten years ago, Wayne decided that it was time to leave LA and get back to his roots and his family. He left the energetic world of Los Angeles and moved to the much slower pace of Marion, Indiana. When asked why he moved back, Wayne said, "It is time to be near family and to give back to the community that gave so much to me and my sister."
After moving back to Marion, Wayne started his own business, Seybold Skating and worked for Re/Max Regency Real Estate. He sat on many community boards and was elected to the City Council. In 2003, he was elected Mayor of Marion.
Wayne is very proud of his accomplishments and the support he has received from his community. But he is most proud of his wife Jennifer and their sons, Michael and John. With all the things on his plate he puts family in the number one position.
