About this user

We started "Sexting: The Musical" back in 2009 in our high school choir room. Initially, the musical was meant to be an inside joke between the two of us (hence the lyrics of our first song, "Sexting"), but when we realized we enjoyed writing music together, we decided to keep going.

When 2010 rolled around, we heard of the incidents taking place regarding homosexual suicide due to the use of technology for negative purposes. Thus, we decided to make our musical not only a comedy that can initially be taken lightly, but also a drama, highlighting real life situations. Therefore, "Sexting: The Musical" simulates how teenage technological use seems comical at first, but can soon turn into a tragedy.

Sexting is a fusion of "13 The Musical," "Avenue Q," and "Spring Awakening." The musical portrays a group of high school aged kids, each struggling with their own issues, finding connections amongst each other, and gradually letting their deepest secrets surface as the musical progresses. Our songs range from dramatic ballads to light, semi-ridiculous melodies.

Characters:

Mary: Religious, flakey, warm-hearted girl with the goal of finding love. She is naive and is convinced that her religion will protect her from ever being hurt. Her best friend is Emma and she develops a crush on Eric. (Sexting, Dear God)

Emma: Smart, down to earth, cynical girl who is clinically depressed. Her parents are divorced because her dad cheated on her mother with one of his students. Thus, Emma doesn't believe in love. She attempted suicide last year, leaving her previously "popular" reputation tainted. She is Mary's best friend and is also secretly best friends with Billy. She develops a relationship with Brad. Billy: The loner of the school. He likes to fly under the radar as to avoid exposing his homosexuality. Emma is the only one who knows he's gay. Billy also becomes slightly depressed throughout the play. (Songs: Halfway Past Escape)

Brad: The school football star. He secretly wants to go to med school, but feels the pressure to stay in football due to his father's wish. He falls in love with Emma and therefore, develops the goal of convincing her that love does exist. (Songs: Just a Word, Boner Exploder, Trapped in My Own Home)

Eric: The school's bad boy. His character is a player, who steals the heart of Mary, only to cause her heart break. He's a narcissist and a rapper, whereas all of the other characters sing. (Songs: Boner Exploder)
