It all started in December 2008 when Thom and Leo formed punk band The Merkins with drummer Callum Busby. The band did several gigs under the name until Callum left for personal reasons and Sex in Japan was born. Thom and Leo recorded their first demo called The Cydonia Contraversy with Thom on guitar, drums and vocals and Leo on bass and synth. The next demo Shallow Graves for Shallow People was put together while the band were auditioning for a new drummer. Finally they met Kim de Ram, a friend of a friend, who wanted to have a jam. The three of them hit it off straight away and started writing a new demo Cause and Effect. The band played shows to promote the new EP and got some good feed back on the demo but the band felt like there was something missing. They decided that the music genre thay fitted into wasnt working in the area of Spain where they were living, so The Sex decided to move to London to play where people would appreciate what they do. Sex in Japan participated in the Emergenza Festival on the 27th of November 2010 at the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town. The band has received nothing but positive feed back from new and old fans with their catchy riffs and beats and excellent vocal work. Since then the band have been writing a new demo and orginizing gigs. So if you live in the London area look out for these guys with their energetic live shows and agressive hardcore sound. Sex in Japan are definitely a band to watch.
