Dear America Letters Home from Vietnam (part 1 8)

    SerenaBay SerenaBay commented:

To DobermansRock...thank you very much for the "welcome". All these years later, it still has great meaning. The same holds true for you...we all thank you for your service and if you were an infantryman, please take advantage (NOW) of any help they offer you regarding PTSD. It's truly an ugly...

Dion - Live At Tropicana, Atlantic City 2004

    SerenaBay SerenaBay commented:

My favorite song by The Belmonts!!! I have only one question: Who are the two INCREDIBLE backup singers and why don't we know more about THEM? Unbelievable...makes me smile every time I watch it. Someone tell THEM to form a retro group...I'll be the first in line.

    SerenaBay SerenaBay commented:

PtelMeasOmo...thanks for the post. I absolutely felt that way...and still do. We "worked" in a village/jungle environment and had little contact with the indigenous people, but always enjoyed seeing women wearing an Ao Doi. The words to Do Ai are interesting: "Can anyone ever know how many sta...

I was drafted in May of '68, served in Vietnam as a Light-Weapons-Infantryman with the 25th Infantry Division...and saw the worst of it all... Yet I can STILL make myself laugh at what I heard in basic and infantry training. My favorite was, "Push 'em up 'til I'M tired". I did thousands of pus...

The Mamas And The Papas - Do You Wanna Dance [1965 Version] Dunhill Track

Beautiful song by The Mamas And The Papas from Their fist album "If You Can Believe You Eyes And Ears". Now let me tell something about that album....

Christopher...thank you for the information regarding the bathroom...typical for the times. Just a bit of clarification...the original song that they and Beach Boys covered was performed in 1958 by Bobby Freeman.

Bobby...thank you so much for responding...that makes ME feel like there was a point to it all. It's funny how episodes in one's life have lasting effects and remain forever. Bobby...Why THIS song and "Know Yourself" didn't rise to the top of the charts in '67 is way beyond me!!! We wore the grooves out on "Color Him In". Spiral Starecase - Broken Hearted Man

Where were you when you fell in love with this song?

    SerenaBay SerenaBay commented:

Thank you very much for this post...one of my all-time favorites and one of the most overlooked songs of the late sixties. How "More Today" made it and this didn't...they forgot to flip the record over. Thank you Pat Upton. I looked for this song for 40 years...first heard it in '69.
