The Democratic Policy Committee, chaired by Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND), serves Senate Democrats by providing research and legislative support, developing policy proposals, publishing reports, tracking votes, and promoting Caucus unity.

Under Senator Dorgan's leadership, the DPC has held hearings on contracting abuses in Iraq and in the Gulf Coast region following Hurricane Katrina, pre-war intelligence failures, and continuing homeland security vulnerabilities, among other issues.
