We all get exited when talking about marriage, yet we make it difficult for each others. Allah says in the Qur'an (translation of the meaning): "And of every thing We have created pairs: That ye may receive instruction." Chpt:51 V.49
"...They (Your Wives) are your garments and ye are their garments..." Chpt:2 V. 187
"It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful." 7:189
"For Muslim men and women,- for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in Charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise,- for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward." Chapter 33 V. 35
There are so many more verses where Allah talks about "men and women" as a pair, but I am sure these verses are enough for now. Like I said earlier, we have made marriage hard for each others in our society. I am sure there are many reasons which I may not know of, but here are few common ones: Sisters ask for too much mahr. Brothers are looking for model looking sisters. Brothers/sisters wait until they finish their education "I get this one" (sometimes wait after PHD ). The guys are afraid to ask for the girls' hands cuz of fear of rejection. The girls' parents are asking for "doctors or engineers," and the list goes on and on...
Why are we putting all these obstacles? Ah, here is another one: cultural background. Mom and dad want the bride or groom to be from back home. Why is this a problem? I mean don't get me wrong, communication is very important and that is why many of our parents would prefer someone from back home. But because of this, we have all forgotten about the most important thing to look at, "TAQWA."
"A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. You should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser." (Muslim)
This should be the most important quality one should look for in a spouse. Indeed the BEST of words are the words of Allah (SWT), and the best of advices among mankind are the advices of the Messenger of Allah (SAW). But unfortunately those who do get married, a lot of them end up in divorce because of lock of knowledge and NOT following through the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Remember, many of us today live in the west where fitnah is increasing. Not to forget even back home, people are starting to adopt these backward ways and thinking. Let's hold strong to the Qur'an and the Sunnah ya Muslimeen. Make marriage easy and stop making it hard. Let me add:
"If someone with whose piety and character you are satisfied with comes to you, marry to him. If you do not do so, there will be trials in the earth and a great deal of evil." At-Tirmidhi and others and it is hassan.
Insha Allah, in the near future, I will make videos talking about a lot of these issues. I will need help from you guys if you will. I will ask you guys to message me some of your thoughts on this topic. Both married and unmarried ones insha Allah. I hope this will be fun and beneficial so we would be able to build bridges on many of these issues. I will also insha Allah make videos talking about some of the things we should avoid or do when searching for a spouse by trying to answer some of ur questions if u have any or by just coming up with ideas. Please keep in mind that I am not a scholar nor am I a student of knowledge. I am just a sisters just like you who has many concerns for her ummah. Please do not ask any fiqh, or fatwa questions as I would not be able to entertain them. I will just talk about things we should avoid when searching for our other half. Please do not ask me any personal questions. This is a project of something serious which we should all hold hands and ponder upon.
I am very sorry for the long message, please forgive me. Anything good I said was from Allah and anything bad was from the evil of my own self. I ask for your forgiveness if any of it has in anyways hurt anyone's feelings.
