West Australian born Singer-Songwriter Simone Alexander's recent move to London has seen that enthusiasm for her 'alternative-pop' music has been building momentum. Recently, she has attracted the interest of Top Ten UK producer Gareth Young (Sugababes, Ronan Keating, Danni Minogue, All Saints, Liam Gallagher) and as a result, they've gone on to record a total of 5 tracks together, as featured on Simone's demo CD."There's something unusual and quite unique about Simone and she has some refreshing ways of looking at the world which she shares glimpses of, with her audiences." She has been described as being "... a fantastic singer, with wonderful songs". With her distinctive voice, her gift for song-writing and her optimistic, hard-working attitude, this is an artist who is sure to go places.
Background:
Simone grew up in an alternative family who follow the teachings of Indian Guru Sri Pramahansa Yogananda. Her father, being a musician himself, ensured that Simone's childhood was richly filled with playful musical participation and education. Her mother, who used to be a singer in her youth, also helped to train Simone's ear and voice from an early age.
In her primary years, she attended a Montessori School where artistic expression was encouraged and Simone regularly took the opportunity to perform improvised music, dance and theatre at weekly assemblies.
At the age of ten, she started a band with two other friends. After writing quite a number of songs, they eventually went their separate ways, however, this sparked the beginning of Simone's interest in songwriting as a form of artistic expression.
At the age of eleven, Simone began to audition for Musicals and managed to secure her first role as a monkey in the production of Noah's Flood. She was invited to sing as a member of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra's Children's Choir and performed at the highly prestigious annual Opera in the Park event. She went on to perform in many musical and theatrical productions over the next four years and studied drama, dance, guitar and singing at high school, before giving it all up having been deeply humiliated by one of the school's teachers, who told her off for being "over enthusiastic" and advised her to seek other interests.
After a few years' break from the performing arts, she began to pick up her guitar and secretly write songs within the privacy of her bedroom. Her passion for song-writing continued to blossom behind closed doors whilst she trained as a Jeweller, studied a diploma in Community Services and worked selling roses with her mother on the streets of Fremantle. After having completed her Diploma, she made a solid decision to focus solely on music and to apply her passion for song-writing towards pursuing a career in music.
When she came out and began to perform the songs that she'd been writing in private, those around her were surprised to find that she had developed herself as a very talented song-writer! Now regularly gigging, showcasing lyrics that are honest, moving and often socially conscious, combined with her instinctive gift for writing dynamic, catchy melodies, she has nurtured the wonderful ability of delivering her messages in a form that is beautiful, uplifting and poetic. ☮
