Interests

Travel is my favorite hobby. I have seen most of North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and I am looking forward to doing research in Antarctica someday. My career will inevitably take me to Africa and South America but I don't like hot climates so lets hope I get to go to the Andes Mountains in Peru or somewhere cool. Machu Picchu would be ideal. My dream trip to South America is to the Darwin Research Center on the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador to see the Blue Footed Boobies, Marine Iguanas, and snorkel with the Fur Seals. I speak Spanish so I am not worried about communication in South America. I was in France, Italy, and Switzerland last summer and picked up enough French and Italian to get by, simply by listening and remembering. I have no formal education in those languages as I do in Spanish, but it was easier than I thought. I am proud of my national heritage, but Americans tend to talk too much and listen too little. We tend to be pushy, overbearing, and bossy and that doesn't play well overseas. I had one of those electronic translators but it did me no good and I threw it away.
