There is also another cut of this tune from the He Haw show that they do in G normal tuning. At 59 seconds, the camera pans right in to Don's Left hand, and, shows the entire solo in G. Not a single open string to be seen, it's pretty cool
@harfuch1 It is NOT a Pedal Steel guitar, it is called a Lap Steel, and, has no pedals or levers.
As you say, most (but, not all) Country players used Pedal Steels, which, you have to play sitting down (to operate the knee levers), but Johnny always to my knowledge played a straight 3 neck Lap S...
