I am now an ex-communist. I have come to believe that communism, indeed all democratically-inclined ideologies are bases on two false assumtions: First, that the common people are intelligent, responsible and good-natured enough to care for their communal well-being and that they are equal. I am convinced that an overwhelming weight of evidence contradicts these hypotheses. The last few thousand years of history show the collossal stupidity of the human race and every objective, measurable statistic belies the idea that humans are equal. That said, I am still in large part a Marxist in the matter of analysis of the state of the world and still favor a mostly socialist economic system, but I in no way support a democratic or egalitarian political structure. I suppose I would call myself a quasi-socialist elitist. I have an interest in history and music, making attempts to play the clarinet, piano, and saxophone. I am also something of a science fiction aficionado."I hate mankind, for I think myself one of the best of them, and I know how bad I am." ~ Samuel Johnson
"The unexamined life is not worth living" ~ Socrates
"Do you, good people, believe that Adam and Eve were created in the Garden of Eden and that they were forbidden to eat from the tree of knowledge? I do. The church has always been afraid of that tree. It still is afraid of knowledge. Some of you say religion makes people happy. So does laughing gas. So does whiskey. I believe in the brain of man. I'm not worried about my soul." ~ Clarence Darrow
"If you believe in freedom of speech, you believe in freedom of speech for views you don't like. Goebbels was in favor of freedom of speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you're in favor of freedom of speech, that means you're in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise." ~ Noam Chomsky
"If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." ~ George Orwell
"The four most beautiful words in the English language are 'I told you so.'" ~ Gore Vidal
"Patriotism is a pernicious, psychopathic form of idiocy." ~ G. B. Shaw
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others." ~ Douglas Adams
