I grew up surrounded by the Mormon Church because I am a descendant of Hyrum Smith (Joseph's brother), but kept falling away from it because something just didn't seem right. I tried constantly to re-commit my faith, and then I started studying the evidence against not just mine, but all religions. It wasn't me that couldn't find God. It was that there was nothing there to find. How much more beautiful the world appears through rational eyes, so don't accuse me of being depressed or angry. Well, I am angry that the Bible is given so much validity, and even to the point that people will not allow their kids to be taught about any science that could dispute that book written by desert dwellers that used their left hands for toilet paper.
Yes, we atheists may seem arrogant to those of faith, because we realize that we have broken the spell that history & society has so tried to cast on us. We are beginning to understand things about the world that amaze us to the fullest. We are skeptics and scholars, because the knowledge is there for the discovering. We no longer believe that our purpose in life is to get into heaven. Our purpose is to expand our knowledge, and extend our species beyond.
Final note: If god were so omnipotent and omniscient, as is claimed, wouldn't he welcome our challenges? Wouldn't he be amazed at what his 'creation' had accomplished? But also, wouldn't he come down and help us in our current times of need, like he supposedly did 1000's of years ago? And yet the invisible man in the sky just sits there and listens to our discussions about him, even knowing that the side that believes in him is slowly losing.
It really is tragic that Tonic was ignored "when it came time to dance". I thought that I was enjoying a serious mainstream band but everyone else thought different.
