Perhaps a point I think is necessary to mention to you. Never put mercury on Aluminium, as you did in the video. It amalgamates with it. Dumping that Mercury-Aluminium amalgam is a serious environmental crime.

@XDecagraphX Well, I think you need one more tip. Whenever you do home chemistry, check the MSDS of any chemical you use. Another point, make sure any reaction you do is safe. The Internet is a wonderful tool and is also extremely useful for all home scientists.

I think you made sodium hydride, not sodium metal itself. The Hydride also reacts explosively with water to make hydrogen gas (NaH + H2O = NaOH + H2).
